ICE FISHING  BLUEGILLS IN THE U.P.

We have about 9-10 inches of ice on the lake right now and I would guess that
most lakes are safe now up here in the U.P.

THE MAIN REASON FOR CATCH AND RELEASE
While fishing for Bluegills !!
There are a few lakes (2 of the best) up
here in the central U.P. that are dying slowly because of missing year classes of Bluegills.
The 2 things I believe that are causing this problem is over fishing bluegills and below normal
temps for a couple of summers preventing successful spawning conditions. I heard the
DNR did a study on my favorite lake this summer and they determined that there were
3-4 year classes missing and that it ill take years for the lake to recover. Too many
fishermen have to catch their limit to be happy. If everybody would just keep a
enough for a meal and throw the rest back we wouldn't have this problem. Leave your
5 gallon buckets at home.

.

One thing about a shack is that it is all the confort a person needs for
getting out on the ice and fishing bluegills.

Vexlar, Lowrance, Marcum or One of the other type flasher units is an
added plus for ice fishing bluegills these days and they are a great teaching tool.

My buddy and I kept just enough for a meal today and most were
8-9 inchers and anything smaller went back to grow up and reproduce.
Most of our trips we throw everything back.Gotta Love Fishing Bluegills

Now here is one fine beakfast of fried bluegills in butter and garlic pepper
with eggs and pancakes on the side.
Doesn't ths make you hungry?
