Fishing Michigan's Upper Peninsula Lakes Page & Guide To Michigan Fishing.  Are You Planning To Fish Michigan's Upper Peninsula,
Then Plan On Fishing Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Fishing Michigan's Upper Peninsula Is a blast. BLUEGILL FISHING IS GREAT IN THE UPPER PENINSULA

WELCOME TO DA UP
COME AND ENJOY THE GREAT FISHING IN MICHIGAN'S UPPER PENINSULA.

Our Bluegill Fishing in the U.P. is not as great as
it was a few years back and the main reason is
over harvesting. The adult populations in most
lakes will support a harvest of about 20 Bluegills
per acre, and this is if the  whole lake will
support Bluegills not just certain areas as in a
lot of the lakes here in the U.P.
Todays educated fishermen using modern electronics
can easily fish a lake out in one year.
A lot of fishermen are also
keeping the 10 inch plus fish which are the
spawners of quality size Bluegills.

Now here are some facts about Bluegills which are coming to light from
individuals who have been involved in Bluegill research.

When there are sufficient numbers of large males they will
keep the smaller males from spawning. Fact Once a male Bluegill
spawns he will stop growing. So if he spawns with regular females
their off spring will not be the decent size fish like the offspring
of females that have  spawned with a 10 inch plus male.
Big fish produce big fish.

Being as our lakes up here are a lot cooler in temperatures than the
lakes furthur south. We do not have the growing season or temperatures
that create spawning conditions that can substain a big harvest of these
delicious fish. In the last few years it has taken a lot more effort to
catch a meal than it use to in the lakes I fish. I have seen a lot of
fishermen that have to take a limit of fish to keep them happy and
support their egos. We need more fishermen doing catch and release.
You can brag just as much about your releases as you can about your
coolers full. I,ve been there done it so I know how it is. With all of
the electronics we have now it sure makes a change in our success and
maybe too successful

The Upper Peninsula Also Has Hundreds Of Brook Trout Streams, .

I WOULD RATHER BE A LIAR THAN TO HAVE NEVER FISHED AT ALL.

BEING AS I CONCENTRATE ON FISHING BLUEGILLS HERE IN THE UPPER PENINSULA, I'LL TRY AND GIVE YOU
SOME INSIGHT INTO HOW TO START FISHING FOR THEM BLUEGILLS IN THE LAKES HERE. NO. 1 - I HAD TO REALLY CHANGE SOME OF MY BLUEGILL FISHING METHODS AND TACTICS WHEN I STARTED TO DO MY BLUEGILL FISHING HERE.

REMEMBER THAT NOT ALL OF THE LAKES IN THE UPPER PENINSULA HAVE BLUEGILLS IN THEM.
THERE ARE A LOT OF LAKES HERE THAT DO NOT HAVE ANY BLUEGILLS IN THEM SO MAKE SURE YOU DO SOME RESEARCH ON THE LAKE YOU WILL BE FISHING. A LOT OF THE LAKES THAT DO HAVE BLUEGILLS IN THEM MIGHT NOT HAVE THE  7"-8" SIZE KEEPER BLUEGILL IN THEM THAT I PREFER.

WE DO HAVE SOME EXCELLANT BLUEGILL FISHING LAKES IN THE UPPER PENINSULA BUT
THEY DO DIFFER FROM THE LAKES I PREVIOUSLY I HAVE BEEN FISHING BLUEGILLS IN. NORMALLY IF A LAKE HAS BLUEGILL FISHING IN IT A PERSON CAN FIND THEM MOSTLY ANY PLACE IN THE LAKE. IN A LOT OF THE UPPER PENINSULA LAKES HERE THE BLUEGILL FISHING IS ONLY IN CERTAIN AREAS, SOMETIMES THESE AREAS ARE VERY SMALL DUE TO THE TYPE OF FOREST/COVER ON THE SHORELINE. BLUEGILLS NEED A SPECIFIC TYPE OF BOTTOM AND THE SUPPORTING FOOD CHAIN/STRUCTURE. SOMETIMES YOUR BLUEGILL FISHING MIGHT ONLY BE FOUND IN ONE SMALL ARE AND THE REST OF THE LAKE IS BAREN OF THEM. DEEP WEED BEDS ARE A GOOD PLACE TO START. FISH THE EDGES AND THE FLAT AREAS ADJACENT TO THEM. I PREFER DRIFTING MYSELF AND  WORKING THE BOTTOM AND IF THAT DOES'NT PRODUCE, THEN BRING YOUR BAIT UP HIGHER AS THEY MIGHT BE SUSPENDED. LARGE BLUEGILLS PREFER THE DEEPER WATER AND WILL SUSPEND JUST BELOW THE THERMOCLINE AT TIMES.

*MICHIGAN'S UPPER PENINSULA FISHING GUIDE TIPS
YOU CAN ALSO HIRE A FISHING GUIDE ALSO BUT MAKE SURE YOU HIRE ONE THAT KNOWS HOW
TO FISH THEM AND WHERE TO FIND THEM. ASK HIM A LOT OF QUESTIONS.
A LOT OF THEM CAN TALK THE TALK BUT CAN'T WALK THE WALK.
REMEMBER A SUCCESSFUL GUIDE IS WELL EQUIPPED.
*BEWARE OF ANY FISHING GUIDE
THAT WANTS TO USE YOUR BOAT AND YOUR EQUIPMENT.. GET REFERENCES AND ASK TO
SEE PICTURES OF HIS CATCHES WITH HIS CLIENTS.ASK TO SEE A PICTURE OF HIS BOAT

A EXCELLANT GUIDE WILL HAVE AT LEAST A 12 FT BOAT WITH A WIDE BEAM SO HIS CLIENT
CAN BRING ALL HIS GEAR AND FEEL SAFE IN THE BOAT.

ANOTHER PLUS IS FINDING A LOCAL RESIDENT THAT GREW UP IN THE AREA YOU ARE
GOING TO FISH AND KNOWS EVERY LITTLE POT HOLE.
